New fire station opens in Hays

HAYS, Kan. (KSNW) – A new fire station in Hays is now open.

The city’s fire chief said the north and northwest parts of Hays have grown, and to keep response times low, it’s recommended to have a fire station within 1 and a half miles to all parts of town.

The station is located at 1732 West 41st St, and it cost about $5.5 million to construct.

“Ellis County set forth a sales tax issue here a few years ago. And the spirit of that sales tax was emergency response, more preparations, more funding, that type of our agencies,” said Chief Ryan Hagans.

Five firefighters will staff the station.
