Fire severely damages vacant house

Apr. 1—HIGH POINT — A fire gutted a vacant house in the southwestern part of the city during the weekend.

The blaze was reported just before 3:10 a.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of Lincoln Drive. High Point Fire Department crews arrived to find flames on the right rear side of the single-story house, Interim Fire Chief Brian Evans said.

No one was in the house. Firefighters brought the fire under control in about a half hour, Evans said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Monday, he said.

The house was gutted. The fire caused an estimated $55,000 worth of damage.
