Fire Hall Theatre streaming 'Ripcord' play through Saturday

Mar. 31—The Fire Hall Theatre is streaming the play, "Ripcord," as video on demand, through Saturday, April 3.

For tickets, go online to www.ggfct.com. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors, students and military.

The play, directed by Chris Berg, is "very funny and heartwarming," said Diana Chabai-Booker, stage manager for this show and secretary of the Greater Grand Forks Community Theatre board of directors.

The play, written by David Lindsay-Abaire, is set in a sunny room on the upper floor of the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility. To the residents, it's considered prime real estate, so when the cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with newcomer Marilyn, she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary, according to the theatre's website.

A seemingly harmless bet between the elderly women quickly devolves into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would prefer to keep hidden.

Four actors are making their Fire Hall Theatre debuts with this production — Gina Uhlir, Walter Criswell, Abby Plumley and Matt Stavens — which is "super-exciting for us," Chabai-Booker said. Other cast members are Nicole Quam, Ben Schille and Amy Lyste.

With this project, director Chris Berg is returning to the Fire Hall after a 10-year absence; his last project was "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" in 2011, she said.

This Fire Hall Theatre show contains strong language and deals with mature themes, including death and addiction.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the City of Grand Forks through the Community Foundation of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks and Region.
