As the old saying says, keep your friends close and the fire department closer.

A group of officers from the Kansas City Police Department's tactical team unwittingly exceeded their police academy elevator's weight limit earlier this week, leaving them unable to exit the lift.

To escape, they were forced to call their fiercest rivals: the Kansas City Fire Department.

According to a police representative, the two departments have a relationship best described as, "siblings who bicker and make fun of each other but will always have each other's backs."

"Public safety is a true brotherhood in our city," the rep told Mashable. "But we'll make jokes about each other any chance we get."

We have a feeling that quite a few of those jokes are coming soon. BTW, does anyone know how many policemen it takes to exit an elevator?
