Fire department: 2 rescued in Coldwater apartment fire

COLDWATER, Mich. (WOOD) — Firefighters say a fire broke out Saturday morning at a Coldwater apartment building.

It happened around 11 a.m. near the intersection of North Clay Street and Taylor Street, according to the Coldwater Fire Department.

Firefighters say one person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and later released. Two people were rescued from the building’s third floor.

Though the fire was contained to a storage room on the first floor, firefighters say there was smoke damage elsewhere. All 23 units lost power, according to the Coldwater Fire Department.

Firefighters from five different departments responded to the fire, which took about half an hour to contain.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Office and the Red Cross helped displaced residents find a place to go, according to the Coldwater Fire Department.
