Fire damages vacant duplex

Apr. 24—HIGH POINT — A fire caused extensive damage to an unoccupied duplex in the southwest part of the city Monday afternoon.

High Point Fire Department crews arrived at 3:40 p.m. at the one-story duplex in the 500 block of Everett Lane to find saw smoke and flames, Deputy Fire Chief Jayson Valade said.

The duplex was vacant, and no one was inside at the time of the fire, Valade told The High Point Enterprise. No one was injured.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control in less than 15 minutes.

The fire caused about $40,000 worth of damage, Valade said.
