PRINCETON — Mercer Street was blocked off late Thursday afternoon when a fire started in a downtown building across the street from the Princeton Public Library.

The fire was reported around 6:15 p.m. The Princeton Fire Department, East River Volunteer Fire Department and the Green Valley-Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department responded. First responders were still on the scene after 7 p.m.

No injures had been reported, said Princeton Fire Chief Matt Mould. The fire's cause was still under investigation.

Building owners Tom Osborne and Charles Shrewsbury watched while the firefighters worked.

"Nobody got hurt," said Osborne. "That's the main thing."
