SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A fire on Factory Street in Suffolk damaged a multi-story building Tuesday evening, Fire Chief Mike Barakey said.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue got the call for a commercial fire in the 300 block of Factory Street around 9:25 p.m., with fire crews arriving five minutes later to find a factory with a fire in the processing area, Barakey said.

Crews worked between the second and third floor to put out the fire that involved a conveyor belt and the duct system, with some fire found in the second-story roof, Barakey said.

The fire was contained to the duct work and roof area, Barakey said, and there were no injuries to factory workers or firefighters.

The fire was placed under control at 10:09 p.m.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue’s Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.
