Fire damages church in Jerseyville Saturday

JERSEYVILLE, Ill. — A fire severely damaged Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville Saturday evening. Firefighters responded to the emergency call just before 7 p.m., arriving to find the flames had originated in the church’s kitchen before spreading through the hallways and into the attic.

Due to the lack of hydrants in the vicinity of the church, several fire departments were called in to assist, bringing water to fight the fire. While firefighters were able to save some artifacts and pictures from inside the church, the building itself was deemed a total loss.
