1 person detained after fire that destroyed central Las Vegas apartment, officials say

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A fire charred an apartment complex in central Las Vegas Monday morning as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., dispatchers received a report of smoke and flames at Shadowbrook Apartment Homes complex near the intersection of Viking and Wynn roads in central Las Vegas. When Clark County Fire Department officials arrived, they found the building engulfed in flames. Flames were visibly shooting through the roof of one of the apartment buildings.

The structure’s roof was removed for safety as crews attempted to knock down the fire. At approximately 9:26 a.m., fire officials say crews were able to knock down the blaze.

“A total of three trucks, ten engines, three rescue units, the Heavy Rescue unit, EMS Supervisor, Air Resource unit, and three Battalion Chiefs responded to the incident with almost 70 personnel,” a Clark County official said.

According to fire officials, no one was killed in the fire, although the building was reported as a total loss, impacting approximately 15 apartment units. Fire officials say 18 adults, three children, and 10 animals were displaced due to the fire. No injuries were reported, and the value lost in the blaze has yet to be determined.

“I saw the water coming out of the apartments like a waterfall,” said neighbor Darrel Peterson, who said fires in the area are not uncommon. Christopher Perrah, who also lives in the area, was notified about the fire by his wife.

According to investigators, a person was detained and questioned about the blaze.
