Finalists to visit campus for Onsted superintendent search

ONSTED — The Onsted Community Schools Board of Education has selected three superintendent candidate finalists to visit the district's campus and participate in a second round of interviews.

The site visits, which began this week, will include a tour and meetings with the administration of all three buildings, plus central office staff, the continuous improvement coordinator and current superintendent Steve Head.

Head, a native of Flat Rock, publicly announced his intention to retire in December, effective June 30. He took on the role in 2017, and has been an educator within the district for nearly 30 years.

The finalists are Jonathon Royce, principal of Charlotte High School; Clara Howitt, superintendent of the Greater Essex County District School Board in Ontario, Canada; and Jodi Ferris, principal of Pathfinder Elementary School in Fremont.

Each of the finalists participated in an opening round of interviews and were among a pool of 19 applicants. Randy Liepa from the Michigan Leadership Institute is the consultant assisting with the superintendent search process.

The second-round interviews will take place during special board of education meetings Monday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 8. The interviews are scheduled for one hour each and, at the conclusion of the interviews, the board is prepared to offer the superintendent position to one of the finalists.

Howitt is scheduled to interview at 6 p.m. May 6, Royce at 6 p.m. May 8, and Ferris at 7 p.m. May 8.

The district plans to have the new superintendent begin their role on about June 1.
