Final suspect in Fort Benning Road murder enters not guilty plea

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The seventh co-defendant accused of killing one man in what investigators describe as a drug deal gone wrong made his first appearance in Recorder’s Court Wednesday morning.

Jquan Williams is the final co-defendant to make his preliminary hearing, all other co-defendants entered not guilty pleas.

Seven co-defendants including Williams have been charged with murder and armed robbery in connection to the death of William Brown, 39.

Williams was represented by conflict attorney Steve Hodges who entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Sgt. Sherman Hayes says surveillance footage and coconspirator testimony placed Williams at the scene.

“We can see on the surveillance camera that when they decide to meet up outside of 2330 Fort Benning Road, that this is no longer going to be a purchase of marijuana. This is now going to be a robbery. You can see everyone exit this Ford Expedition, meet up with a female outside of the apartment building, and then you can see them all run around and swarm the corners and east of the apartment building to enter. And then they come running out,” Sgt. Hayes said. “Shortly after, the witness ran out of the apartment for his life, they all go to another residence afterwards. And I have four coconspirators in this incident identified Mr. Williams as the shooter.”

Chief Judge David Ranieri ordered Williams to be held without bond, his case has been bound over to Superior Court.
