Final hours to register to vote for the 2022 midterm election

Oct. 12—The clock is ticking for Missouri voters trying to register to vote in the 2022 midterm election. Residents have until 5 p.m. Wednesday to register to vote in person or online.

Voters can have their registration application postmarked by Wednesday as well.

Buchanan County Clerk Mary Baack-Garvey said there were 51,951 voters registered in the county as of 11 a.m. Wednesday. She anticipates this number to go up a little bit by the deadline.

"It seems like after the weekend, we always seem to have an uptick on Mondays and Tuesdays. But all in all, it's been pretty fairly average of registration turnout-wise," Baack-Garvey said.

Voters who are unsure of their registration status can either call their county clerk's office to confirm or they can check their status online.

To register to vote in Missouri, you must be at least 17-and-a-half years old and be 18 years old by Election Day. You must also be a Missouri resident and a United States citizen.

Missouri residents who want to register to vote can do so in the following ways:

* Go to your county clerk's office

* Register online — click the tablet option to submit your application online

* Print and mail your registration — access the forms here

* Request a voter registration application be mailed to you — access the request here

Regardless of which option you choose, you must either submit the application in person or at the county clerk's office before 5 p.m. or have your request postmarked by today.

Baack-Garvey said every election is important and impacts voters.

"There are a lot of amendments that could affect them and there's a local city tax," Baack-Garvey said. "If they just do their homework, read the sample ballots, that might pique their interest (of) going out to the polls on Tuesday."

You can access your full sample ballot here to see what you can vote on.
