The first trailer for Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, starring Johnny Depp, was released on March 15, marking the sixth reteaming of the two talents for another quirky film.
This retelling of the American cult television series that aired 1966-72 is a gothic tale of a vampire living among normal people. Burton's signature style is delivered with outrageous sets, costumes and make-up, at play with his wacky wit.
The footage shows Johnny Depp camping it up with reactions to "new" (circa 1970s) technology upon awakening after being buried for 200 years. Originally a strange daytime soap opera, this comedic adaptation looks to parody the vampire genre.
The trailer's excerpts show the story of Barnabas Collins, returning to Collinsport, Maine, where in 1752 he had been a rich, powerful playboy, until he broke the heart of Angelique Bouchard, a witch who then turned him into a vampire.
His motley descendents include the matriarch Michelle Pfeiffer, a rebellious teenager played by Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo), and a live-in psychiatrist played by Helena Bonham Carter. The witch is played by Eva Green (Casino Royale).
The comedic supernatural thriller releases May 9-11 around the world.
