Fight breaks out between John Harris High School employees

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Two employees John Harris High School were escorted from the school have been placed on paid leave after a verbal disagreement escalated into a fight on Wednesday morning.

“This is highly unusual. It’s not at all representative of our faculty and staff who take responsibility as role models for our students very seriously,” said Harrisburg School District Superintendent Eric Turman.

In a letter released to parents, Harrisburg School District Superintendent Eric Turman said the fight took place in a classroom and involved a school safety monitor and a teacher.

Turman says the teacher has worked at the district for about two years and the safety monitor for about seven years.

According to the superintendent, the incident started when the safety monitor entered the classroom unexpectedly and confronted the teacher about a “personal concern.”

Turman couldn’t go into detail about why the fight happened.

The superintendent says other school safety monitors, staff, and a student quickly surrounded the two employees who were involved and tried to de-escalate the situation.

“What I would probably say about the student who was involved with that is the individual once again saw what was happening and the individual wanted to help,” said Turman.

He says the physical fight was brief no one was injured.

The incident is under investigation and and administrators are speaking to students who were present.

“We will not tolerate such disappointing behavior in our schools, and we apologize for the impact this incident may have has on students who look to our staff as trusted adults,” the superintendent wrote,
