FIFA confirms use of 'goal-line technology' in 2014 Brazil World Cup

London, Feb 20 (ANI): FIFA has announced that the much-hyped goal-line technology (GLT) will be used at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and added that the technology may be introduced in the Premier League as well next season. Confirming that the GLT will also be used at this year's FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, the football body said that the GLT has been aimed to support match officials and to install a system in stadiums and pre-match referee tests, the Telegraph reports. According to FIFA, it has launched a tender on Tuesday in view of the available different technologies, laying down the technical requirements for the two forthcoming competitions in Brazil. FIFA further stated that it has invited interested GLT companies, along with the two providers currently licensed under FIFA's Quality Programme for GLT, to submit tenders, and added that the interested GLT providers will be invited to join an inspection visit to the Confederations Cup venues. FIFA also said that the final tender will be confirmed in early April. FIFA had granted licenses to two GLT companies, the camera-dependent 'Hawk-Eye' and magnetic field-based 'GoalRef' at December's Club World Cup for worldwide use. (ANI)
