Sixteen teams are headed for the girls’ high school basketball state tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington this week, and we now know all their names.

Fifteen regional championship games were decided Saturday with the remaining one wrapped up Sunday.

Those 16 champions fill a winner-take-all, single-elimination bracket to decide the state champion Wednesday through Saturday.

Four first-round games are set for Wednesday followed by another four Thursday. The quarterfinals are Friday. The semifinals and championship game will take place Saturday.

Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville has won the tournament each of the past three years.

Region champions to qualify for the field Saturday were: McCracken County (1st Region), Henderson County (2nd), Bowling Green (4th), Bethlehem (5th), Butler (6th), Sacred Heart (7th), Anderson County (8th), Cooper (9th), George Rogers Clark (10th), Franklin County (11th), Danville Christian (12th), North Laurel (13th), Owsley County (14th), Pikeville (15th) and Russell (16th). Owensboro (3rd Region) advanced to the Sweet 16 on Sunday.

In addition to Sacred Heart, seven schools from last year’s Sweet 16 are making repeat visits: Bethlehem, Bowling Green, Cooper, George Rogers Clark, Henderson County, McCracken County and North Laurel.

Fans will also be able to watch several of Kentucky’s top seniors in action this week. Seven finalists for the 2024 Kentucky Miss Basketball award have earned a crack at a state championship in Rupp Arena, including Claire Johnson of McCracken County, Mariah Knight and University of Kentucky signee Ramiya White of Butler, Reagan Bender of Sacred Heart, Carly Smith of Owsley County, Trinity Rowe of Pikeville and Shaelyn Steele of Russell.

The Sweet 16 field also includes a pair of top-10 national recruits in Sacred Heart junior ZaKiyah Johnson and Bethlehem junior Leah Macy. Johnson is rated No. 5 and Macy No. 8 in the ESPN HoopGurlz class of 2025 rankings. Ciara Byars of George Rogers Clark is rated No. 37 nationally in the same class.
