Fiancé found guilty in Warrensville Heights murder of Amanda Williams

CLEVELAND (WJW) — A jury found Tirrell Edwards guilty of shooting and killing his fiancée Amanda Williams at their Warrensville Heights home last October, the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office announced Monday.

Edwards, 41, was found guilty of the following charges:

  • Two counts of murder

  • Two counts of felonious assault

  • One count of domestic violence

“The State of Ohio believes that Amanda Williams’s death was an intentional homicide without justification and the evidence we presented has conclusively proven that,” Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said in a statement.

Back in October, Warrensville Heights police were initially called to a home at the 19700 block of Sunset Drive after Edwards had called 911 just before midnight to say he killed his fiancée.

Upon arrival, police said they found Williams, a 46-year-old mother and grandmother who was also a popular hairstylist, with several gunshot wounds. After being taken to the hospital, she was declared dead.

While a person of interest was arrested following the shooting, no charges were filed at first, leading people in the community to speak out on Williams’ behalf.

Friends and family told FOX 8 Williams’ murder came after years of “abuse and manipulation.”

At the beginning of November, Cuyahoga County authorities issued an arrest warrant for Edwards and he turned himself in.

“Today’s verdict was a vital step in seeking justice for Amanda Williams,” O’Malley said. “My prayers remain with Amanda Williams’s friends and family during this time.”

Edwards’ sentencing is scheduled for next Monday at noon.
