Ferroglobe to establish first South Carolina operations with $20M Marlboro County investment

MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Ferroglobe will establish its first South Carolina operations with a $20 million investment in Marlboro County, according to a Wednesday news release from the governor’s office.

The $20 million investment will create 19 new jobs. Ferroglobe, a global producer of silicon metal, has 25 operations around the world and produces silicon metal and other silicon-based alloys for things like aluminum, solar cells, semiconductors and batteries.

The new operation will be on Brickyard Road in the Wallace area, the release said. The company will filter and process quartz from the soil which will then be distributed to Ferroglobe’s silicon plants across the country.

“Today’s announcement is proof that Marlboro County has a business-friendly environment and that we’re open for business,” Marlboro County Council Chairman Anthony Woods said. “We would like to welcome Ferroglobe to the Marlboro County community and we look forward to a prosperous working relationship in the future.”

Operations are expected to be online in the second half of 2024, according to the release. Those interested in joining the Ferroglobe team can contact Mary Collins.
