Ferris State rolls out hotline to help prospective students waiting on FAFSA results

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Ferris State University is launching a hotline to answer questions about financial aid and the delayed FAFSA process.

Usually, prospective students can make their school decisions after receiving a breakdown of their financial aid package. However, because of rollout delays for the updated FAFSA form, many students feel pressured into making a decision without seeing the full financial picture.

Students and parents are frustrated by delays in hearing about federal financial aid for college

Kristen Salmonsen, FSU’s Dean of Enrollment Services, understands the frustration and wants to keep prospective students as informed as possible.

“We have been keeping a close watch on the ever-changing FAFSA timeline and want to assure students we are committed to providing them with a financial aid package as soon as possible once we receive the FAFSA information,” Salmonsen said in a statement.

Tentatively, Salmonsen said the university expects financial aid information to start being released in the next few weeks.

“We will do everything we can to ensure students will have their aid package in hand to thoughtfully evaluate before they make their decision,” she stated.

Prospective students can schedule a one-on-one online appointment with a counselor, send questions by email to finaid@ferris.edu, or call the Financial Aid Hotline at 231-591-2110.
