Fergie has broken her silence on the backlash she received after performing the national anthem at Sunday night's NBA All-Star Game at the Staples Center.

Speaking exclusively with TMZ on Monday afternoon, the "Fergalicious" singer was apologetic about her controversial arrangement of the song.

"I've always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA," she said. "I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best."

The performance was pretty much unanimously panned on social media, with people expressing confusion over the so-called "sexy" rendition.

Earlier reports indicated that immediately following her performance, the singer and her team -- clearly unaware of the mounting backlash on social media -- were pleased with how it went.

"Neither Fergie nor her team thought anything was wrong with her national anthem rendition," a source told Us Weekly. "That’s the way she sings a lot of her songs. She loves adding a little sexiness and being different with her riffs. It was meant to be jazz-inspired. She wanted to stand out."

On Monday, celebrities had mixed reactions to Fergie's performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner," though.

Mariah Carey, who prompted her own national outcry on New Year's Eve in 2016, supported Fergie by proclaiming, "Dahling, nobody needs to listen to that."

Rosanne Barr, however, issued a much harsher evaluation of the moment.

"Who saw Fergie’s national anthem performance at the NBA All Star Game?" she tweeted. "I think mine was better lowkey."
