Feds shut down another Boston-to-NYC bus company

Federal transportation officials order discount Boston-to-NYC Lucky Star buses to stop running

BOSTON (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation has ordered another discount bus service between Boston and New York to halt service.

Federal investigators say they found that Boston-based Lucky Star's 21 buses did not meet minimum safety standards and that the company failed to properly inspect, repair or maintain the vehicles. The investigators also say they found drivers weren't required to pass drug and alcohol tests or turn in required documentation of their hours.

The department says Lucky Star poses an imminent hazard to public safety.

Phone and email messages were left with Lucky Star seeking comment.

In March, the discount Fung Wah bus company, which also ran between Boston and New York, had its federal license revoked after state officials found problems including cracked bus frames.
