Michigan's federally-funded unemployment program reduced as unemployment rate falls
LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan residents will no longer be able to receive some federally-funded benefits because the state's unemployment rate has fallen below 9 percent.
People who exhaust their Tier 3 benefits after April 13 will no longer be able to make a Tier 4 claim under the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program.
The program provides unemployment benefits for people who have already collected all of the state benefits for which they are eligible.
Tier 4 provides up to seven weeks of benefits in states with unemployment rates of at least 9 percent.
People currently receiving Tier 4 benefits can continue to receive any remaining benefits until they have been exhausted.
About 205,000 people claim unemployment benefits in Michigan.
