Federal storm aid available for NYC, LI residents

NEW YORK (AP) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency says federal funding is being made available to storm-affected residents and business owners in New York City and on Long Island.

Assistance includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs.

Federal aid is also available to state and eligible local governments and certain non-profit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for debris removal and emergency protective measures.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses can begin applying for aid starting Thursday by registering online at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
