COLUMBUS, Ohio - Money from the federal government will go toward repairing four of Ohio's covered bridges.

The National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program is spending just over $1 million on the bridges in Miami, Greene, Jackson and Scioto (sy-OH'-tuh) counties.

The money will help fix the deteriorating structures and allow the bridges to continue to carry cars, bicycles and walkers.

The covered bridge preservation program is overseen by the federal highway department.

This year it's giving out $9.7 million for 22 projects around the country.
