Fed officials to discuss Niagara tourism efforts

Commerce official, Gillibrand to discuss efforts to raise tourism profile of Niagara region

YOUNGSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) -- Federal officials are responding to calls to raise the tourism profile of New York's Niagara region.

On Monday, a U.S. Commerce official, Ken Hyatt, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and others will hold a news conference at Old Fort Niagara. They'll announce that a federally funded tourism website, Brand USA, will feature the region as a "trip idea" on the New York state page.

Brand USA was established by Congress in 2010 to lead the nation's first global marketing effort to promote the U.S. as a travel destination.

Sen. Charles Schumer has been among those urging the site to highlight Niagara Falls and Buffalo's architecture.
