'Fear The Walking Dead' Recap: Nick Goes Shopping, Strand and Maddy Go Drinking
The “Los Muertos” episode of Fear the Walking Dead starts off with Nick waking up to his new surroundings and witnessing a girl’s father sacrificing himself to pit of walkers. Clearly Nick is getting his lay of the new land and the new village that he landed at, led by Alejandro the pharmacist.
Alejandro sends Nick on a mission with Lucia, to trade medicine for water and supplies with a deadly Mexican gang. Nick is to stay quiet in the background, while Lucia negotiates with the gang and unsuccessfully gets undercut to half of what she requested. While filling their shopping cart with supplies, Nick pockets some candy on the sly. The gang busts Nick for his shoplifting and are about to cut his hand off as punishment. However, Nick notices the gang leader’s sister is sick and is in need of the medicine Alejandro has. Nick threatens to cut off the supply of medicine that the sister is in need of and manages to save his hand, and to get twice as many supplies for Lucia. This move may have given them more supplies, but Lucia and Alejandro are not happy as it now puts their village in danger from the gang.
Meanwhile, Strand and Madison are on the road with Alicia and Ophelia. They are searching for Nick as well as their other two members, Travis and Chris. Momentarily defeated, they return to their boat only to find it has been stolen by the militia. They’re forced to go back on the road, where they find a Mexican resort.
Alicia and Ophelia search the hotel rooms for supplies, and discover someone has locked the dead in their rooms and put “Do Not Disturb” signs to mark the doors with the dead in them. Madison and Strand stay in the lobby and head to the hotel bar, which is still stocked with alcohol. They spend some time drinking and bonding over their unlikely partnership. Loose drinks lead to loud antics, with Madison doing shots and throwing the glasses at the walls, while Strand pound nonsensical notes on the piano. Their noise literally wakes the dead, causing the walkers in the hotel rooms to drop from the balcony windows, where they get up and break into the lobby, putting everyone in danger.
Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 pm on AMC.
