‘Fear’ Advance Sales Top 1M Copies — and These Trump Books’ Sales Are Up, Too
  • Bob Woodward’s book “Fear: Trump in the White House” has digital sales and advance print sales of over 1 million units, making it one of the most popular items in years.

  • President Trump continues his habit of responding on Twitter, including suggesting he’ll write his own book.

  • The tweets and media coverage have produced a “Trump bump” in sales for other books about Trump and his administration.

Bob Woodward, one half of the journalistic duo that broke the Watergate burglary news that brought down President Nixon, penned “Fear: Trump in the White House,” the most anticipated book of 2018.

The book’s publisher, Simon & Schuster, announced Woodward’s tome sold more than 750,000 audio, print and digital copies as of Sept. 11, the book’s release date, and said it is printing 1 million copies to keep up with the mounting demand. After the book was announced in July, pre-sales surged, and it rose to No. 1 on both Barnes & Noble and Amazon’s best-seller lists once excerpts leaked. It is pacing to be one of the top-selling books for adults in years.

Woodward’s off-the-record sources for “Fear” malign President Donald Trump and paint his administration as a chaotic and disastrous mess full of petty and vindictive in-fighting. Trump, who once sang Woodward’s praises, took to Twitter to refute all of the book’s claims, and has deemed it a work of “fiction” as a response to the first excerpts released on Sept. 4.

Trump, self-admittedly, is not a bookworm, but that hasn’t stopped him from penning several non-fiction best-sellers over his career. In addition to refuting the contents of “Fear,” he suggested he’d write his own book about his presidency:
