FDA finds no signs of bird flu in milk and milk products

The FDA tested nearly 300 samples of milk, cheese, sour cream, and other products.

It did not find any active traces of bird flu in those samples.

The FDA says this should help reassure consumers about the safety of America’s milk supply.

The government is continuing to test ground beef and raw milk sent to processors before pasteurization.

Drugmaker to increase production of Ozempic and Wegovy

Novo Nordisk is investing billions of dollars to increase patients’ access to the drugs Ozempic and Wegovy.

The Danish drug maker will spend six and a half billion to increase production.

Ozempic is an FDA-approved prescription for type two diabetes.

Wegovy is FDA-approved for weight loss in people with chronic obesity.

Both are taken weekly by injection.

They work by making the brain feel more satisfied.

Both have been hugely popular, with patients impacted by the nationwide drug shortage.

Fruit fly gene named after Kevin Bacon

Scientists studying the social networks of fruit flies are using a famous actor to explain their findings.

Research published this week identifies a gene that determines how central flies are to their network.

They call the concept “high between-ness centrality.”

They’ve named the gene “Degrees of Kevin Bacon”—or DOKB—after the game in which you link celebrities to actors in as few steps as possible.

The lead author of the study went to high school with bacon.
