New FCC campus offers diverse education, encourages physical well being

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A new Fresno City College campus that is said to provide a diverse range of educational opportunities is officially complete.

The Fresno City College West Fresno Center resides on 39 acres with over 100,000 square feet of instructional space, consisting of two buildings: the Academic Building and the Advanced Transportation Center.

The Academic Building was the first to open, with classes ranging from social justice, public health, and general education beginning in August 2023.

The Advanced Transportation Center first welcomed students on Jan. 8. offering various automotive and advanced technology programs. Other additional Career and Technology Education programs are still to be added.

Part of the $86.5 million project was funded by the City of Fresno from the Transformative Climate Community (TCC) program. This program helps underserved communities with neighborhood projects that provide local benefits while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the City of Fresno is providing $11 million in off-site improvements.

The new center is an open campus with a park-like setting that encourages the community to embrace the outdoors and a healthy lifestyle. It includes a walking trail with training stations and will also have an urban forest and bio-retention system to promote groundwater recharge.

Anyone who would like to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at 600 East Church Avenue can RSVP here.
