FBI serves subpoenas at Dolton Village Hall

DOLTON, Ill. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation served subpoenas at the Dolton Village Hall Friday afternoon, according to an FBI spokesperson.

Sources told WGN News a handful of FBI agents arrived around 2:15 p.m., but as has been standard practice in recent weeks, the doors were locked and the agents had to identify themselves to the employees inside before ordering them to open the doors.

Two separate subpoenas were served today, according to Burt Odelson who is the official legislative counsel for the group of Dolton trustees who have opposed Henyard.

One subpoena asked for “employment records, personnel files and disciplinary reports” for more than a dozen Dolton employees, according to Odelson. The second subpoena focused on Henyard’s top aide in both Dolton and Thornton Township, Keith Freeman, who was indicted earlier this week on bankruptcy fraud.  Freeman is accused of lying about and hiding his income from Dolton.

Asked for his response to the FBI visit to village hall, Odelson replied: “The house of cards is collapsing.”

An FBI spokesperson would only say “the FBI was conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity in that area today.”

A spokesperson for Mayor Tiffany Henyard responded to inquiries by stating: “There was no FBI raid at Village Hall today. No further comment at this time.”

Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard, who also serves as the supervisor for Thornton Township, has been the focus of months of WGN Investigates reporting. She’s accused of retaliating against people she perceives as her political opponents, and spent nearly $100,000 of taxpayer money in the past year on travel for her and her entourage.

Trustees in Dolton have also accused her of improperly approving payments to vendors.

The FBI’s activity in Dolton Friday came during the same week as Henyard’s top aide in both Dolton and Thornton Township, Keith Freeman, being charged with bankruptcy fraud. Freeman is accused of lying about and hiding his income from Dolton.
