FBI launches criminal investigation into Key Bridge collapse

BALTIMORE, Md. (DC News Now) — On Monday, the FBI announced that it launched an investigation into the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Key Bridge.

The FBI said the investigation is to determine if any criminal charges are warranted after the cargo ship, Dali, crashed into the bridge due to it losing power roughly 30 minutes into the trip.

The Associated Press reported that the ship may have experienced electrical problems with its refrigerated containers before it left the Port of Baltimore on its way to Sri Lanka.

The crew knew of the issues and indicated that they would be addressed, according to the AP’s report.

FBI agents went onboard the ship Monday but did not say what they did on it.

Attorneys from Atlanta-based Stewart Miller Simmons, and Kreindler & Kreindler, of New York City, announced they represent the families of two of the dead workers, and one who survived, in legal action against those determined to be responsible for the collision.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott also unveiled a partnership with two law firms Monday to launch similar action.
