Fayette County Commission to meet at different site

May 21—The Fayette County Commission will canvass the primary election vote count on Wednesday with a hand count of Precinct 74, which represents the Corliss area.

There has been a change in venue for the regular session, which will begin at 9 a.m. at the Fayette County Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building instead of the usual Fayette County Courthouse site.

According to Fayette County Clerk Michelle Holly, Precincts 74 and 19 (Glen Jean) were chosen for a random hand count by elections officials. Once the final precinct count is finalized, the county commission will declare the votes, she said.

"You have to declare your results, which starts the recount clock if anybody is asking for a recount," said Holly. "That will start tomorrow."

Also on Wednesday, the commission will stage discussion and decision on a variety of matters, including the May delinquent list for newspaper publication; bid openings for dilapidated buildings; Armstrong Creek PSD board members and project plan; bid openings for the annex roof project; Meadow Bridge water project funding shortfall request; Steve Holstein Pax Coal Mine issue; and fire budgets.

Other issues to be discussed with County Administrator Ruth Lanier include WV Corp Renewal, Sheriff Mike Fridley hiring decision of a deputy sheriff, Records Management Preservation Board Grant 2025 award (contract for approval and signature), CRS Community certification (for signature) and airport board selections.

County commission staff remind the public that Zoom may not be available for the Wednesday gathering. To attempt to access Zoom video, visit zoom.us/join. The call in is 646-558-8656. Meeting ID is 304-574-1200.

Future meetings of the commission are planned for June 5 and 26, according to commission staff.
