Father of Muslim U.S. Army Officer Killed in Iraq Shames Donald Trump in DNC Speech

The father of a Muslim U.S. Army soldier killed in Iraq shamed Republican nominee Donald Trump for his policies on banning Muslim immigrants to the U.S. in an emotional speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday.

Khizr Khan took the stage with his wife Ghazala to talk about their son Capt. Humayun Khan , who was killed in a car bomb in Iraq in 2004.

" Hillary Clinton was right when she called my son 'the best of America,' " he said. "If it was up to Donald Trump, he never would have been in America ... We were blessed to raise our three sons in a nation where they were free to be themselves and follow their dreams"

Humayun Khan, who moved to the United States from the United Arab Emirates at age 2, was 27-year-old when he was killed. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his heroism.

"Donald Trump, you are asking Americans to trust you with our future. Let me ask you: Have you even read the United States Constitution?"

The crowd erupted in applause before Khan pulled out a copy of the Constitution and ended his question with, "I will gladly lend you my copy."

Khan also said Trump is peddling divisive rhetoric that is dividing the country.

"Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims," he said. "He disrespects other minorities, women, judges, even his own party leadership. He vows to build walls and ban us from this country ... We can't solve our problems by building walls and sowing division."

Another applause from the crowd came when Khan said Trump knew nothing about sacrifice.

"You have sacrificed nothing and no one!" Khan said.

This speech was delivered just days after Hillary Clinton made history Tuesday, when she was officially nominated as the first female major party candidate for president.
