Father and daughter OK after truck falls through ice on Lake Winnipeg

CHALET BEACH, Man. - A father-daughter ice fishing trip in Manitoba nearly turned tragic when the truck the two were in broke through the ice.

The incident happened on frigid Lake Winnipeg in the Matlock area, near Chalet Beach.

RCMP say the pair were inside the truck when the ice beneath broke up.

Sgt. Line (lynn) Karpish says both managed to get out of the truck and scramble to safety.

The father phoned police from home to let officers know what happened.

RCMP warn fishermen to do research before heading out, because the ice can be thinner in some areas than in others.
