Fatal shooting marks July 4th weekend in Savannah

Savannah resident Devin Smith was fatally shot Monday afternoon at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Duffy Lane in Savannah, according to the Savannah Police Department.

Smith, 24, was found by Savannah Police officers around 4 p.m. on July 3. Smith was taken to a Savannah hospital with serious gunshot wounds and later died.

Smith's death is being investigated as a homicide and would be the fourth murder of the year, according to the Savannah Police Department weekly statistics.

Detectives continue to investigate the incident.
