Man killed in road rage shooting on WB I-80/94 in NW Indiana; person in custody: ISP

LAKE STATION, Ind. — A man was killed in an apparent road rage-related shooting on Interstate 80/94 in Northwest Indiana.

According to Indiana State Police, troopers received a call around 4 a.m. Wednesday of a road rage incident that happened on 80/94 near Ripley Street. Shortly after, a crash occurred on westbound I-94 at 12.8mm.

Upon arrival at the scene of the crash, troopers discovered a male driver with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The medical examiner has identified the victim as 55-year-old Mark Brant of Chesterton, Indiana. His death was ruled a homicide on Thursday.

ISP says the driver, who originally called to report the road rage incident, had pulled over about two miles from where the crash occurred — per instruction from authorities. The person was taken into custody.

No further information has been released at this time.

All westbound lanes of I-80/94 near Ripley Street were closed for several hours Wednesday due to the shooting investigation.
