Fatal motorcycle crash reported Sunday north of Ojai

An Oxnard motorcyclist died in a crash on Highway 33 north of Ojai on Sunday afternoon.

A 2020 Yamaha R1 motorcycle and a 2017 Dodge Caravan collided on the southbound side of the highway when the minivan crossed into the southbound lane and struck the motorcycle, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.

The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries from the crash, according to the CHP.

On Tuesday, the rider was identified as Gary Anderson, 66, of Oxnard, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office.

The minivan went off the road and down a steep hill, according to Capt. Brian McGrath of the Ventura County Fire Department. CHP records show the crash was reported at 12:18 p.m. on the 33 near the Potrero John Trail.

The minivan driver, a 34-year-Fillmore woman, sustained cuts to her right leg, according to the CHP. The driver and two passengers suffered minor injuries.

A helicopter was dispatched as part of the response to the crash. Bystanders on a climbing trip also responded to the rescue.

The investigation is ongoing. Witnesses can call CHP at 805-662-2640.
