Very few people get to experience what it’s like to get behind the wheel of a supercar on an empty runway, and simply floor it. I can only assume it’s quite the sensation, especially in the $1.4 million dollar Ferrari LaFerrari. While the driver doesn’t reach the limit of 217 mph, (or the claimed 215 in the video title for that matter), he comes pretty close, getting all the way up to 214 before letting off the throttle.
What’s impressive isn’t how fast the LaFerrari is, it’s how quickly it can get up to downright silly speeds. This whole video is 44 seconds long, and 20 seconds after launch, the guy has the car up to 190 mph. Think about that, 20 seconds, to go from zero to one hundred and ninety miles per hour. If you can’t wrap your head around how quick that is, walk over to your microwave, start a 20 second timer, and see how many things you can get done in that span of time. It won’t be very much, but in that same amount of time, you could have been going nearly 200 mph. Ridiculous.
What I really like about this video is that you see the passenger fiddle with the end of the seatbelt—check the mirror—and generally try to remain clam. I just get a kick out of this because I know that I wouldn’t enjoy being in that seat one bit. In fact, I don’t think I’d ever put myself in that position, regardless of who was at the wheel.
I’ve yet to hit the 200 mph mark in a car, but you can be sure that when I do, I’ll be in the drivers seat.
