It was a rumor that swept Europe this summer, but now Page Six is reporting that Gucci's top couple, CEO Patrizio di Marco and creative director Frida Giannini, who have a daughter together, will exit their posts — imminently. The Post also reports sales at the global brand have been stagnant, and Michele Sofisti, the CEO of Gucci's watches and jewelry division, left the company last week. In October, Gucci posted its weakest quarterly growth in four years, with overexpansion in China being pointed to as one reason.
Rumors abounded in Europe about this over the past summer, with names being floated as possible new Gucci creative directors. One name heard often and loudly was Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci, who has been considered one of fashion's top talents for years and, we hear, has been at least approached for the position. Earlier this week, Tisci announced Julia Roberts as Givenchy's new face.
Gucci hasn't yet responded to requests for comment.
