Farmhouse Poconos opens new location after fire

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Back in June, a fire ripped through and destroyed several businesses at a shopping center in the Poconos. Months later, one of those shops is celebrating its reopening.

28/22 News Reporter Sydney Kostus was live with the owner celebrating its reopening.

Stacked with fried chicken, bacon, eggs, and waffles, the jumbo jet is made with love by Chef T at the Farmhouse Restaurant in the Poconos.

“Lot of love and heart. We just wanted to bring something big and great to the community pretty much,” Chef T told 28/22 News.

Serving orders herself, it’s been quite a journey for owner April Maiya-Butler.

The last time we talked to her was the morning after the Fountain Court fire in Tannersville destroyed her cafe.

“I was devastated, I couldn’t get out of bed,” Maiya-Butler said.

Now, eight months later, she opened a second location on Main Street in Stroudsburg.

“We were dealing with insurance, we were dealing with the landlord, just a lot of red tape that would deflate a normal small business owner, but I created Farmhouse for the locals and it was the locals that ultimately carried me through the tragedy,” Maiya-Butler explained.

The business held a soft opening on Friday. She says the response was incredible.

“We opened and within 20 minutes we were packed! You know our kitchen was kind of crazy, our servers were kind of crazy because we didn’t expect it, but again that is a testament to how much the Pocono people pan it together,” Maiya-Butler said.

With hopes to return to a third location in Tannersville, Maiya-Butler says she’s come back stronger from dealing with the loss.

“The lesson that I learned through all of this is even through tragedy, the human spirit never dies and it will carry you through,” Maiya-Butler added.

The farmhouse location on Main Street is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
