The fantasy football regular season is officially 50% complete. It’s getting to be that time of year when you should start looking ahead, and configuring a plan for the final five weeks of the season. Configure a plan that gives you your best chance to finish strong, win games and make the playoffs. The waiver-wire this week has some names that I really like, thanks to the surge of recent injuries across the league, and would recommend picking up any of these players to further help your team.

Colts TE Jack Doyle

If you’ve watched the Colts this season, you’ve noticed how productive Doyle has been in a limited time-share at tight end. On Sunday, he was given full reigns at the position, and had a career day. He finished with nine receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown, showing a clear rapport with quarterback Andrew Luck. With Dwayne Allen out for multiple weeks with an ankle injury, Doyle is a must add. The Colts are banged up at the wide receiver position, and Doyle has big-time upside in an offense that loves to throw the ball.

Packers RB/WR Ty Montgomery

It remains to be seen what role Montgomery will have in this offense moving forward, but based on how effective they were on Thursday night against Chicago, I wouldn’t suspect too much change. Montgomery was excellent against the Bears, rushing for 60 yards and catching 10 passes out of the backfield.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been desperate for production from his skill players, and Montgomery gives this offense an additional threat because of his diverse skill-set. His receiving chops out of the backfield cannot be overlooked, as it gives Rodgers a dangerous open-field weapon from the RB position that he didn’t have previously. I think Montgomery is here to stay, and should be owned in all leagues. Given his versatility, I can’t see the Packers shifting him out of the offense anytime soon.

Saints WR Michael Thomas

Thomas should be owned in the majority of leagues. But in case he’s not, move him up as your number-one priority this week. Thomas had another record day for New Orleans, catching 10 passes for 130 yards against the Chiefs in Week 7. Over the last four weeks, Thomas has 26 receptions, 320 yards and three touchdowns. It’s clear that Thomas has carved out a role in this offense. Quarterback Drew Brees praised Thomas after the game, saying that:

“He’s getting better and better, and (we’re) just continuing to open the playbook for him and find ways to utilize him,” Brees said.

At 6-foot-3, Thomas is a perfect fit alongside the speedy Brandin Cooks. Thomas is a WR3/Flex player moving forward, with upside for much more.

Redskins WR Jamison Crowder

Crowder had his best offensive output of the season on Sunday, catching seven passes for 108 yards. Granted, it was against the worst defensive secondary in the league, the Lions, but Crowder’s role in this offense continues to grow. Crowder is currently on pace for slightly less than 1,000 yards receiving on the year, but the reason why I like him is because of the chemistry he’s shown with quarterback Kirk Cousins. Watching the game on Sunday, it seemed like whenever the Redskins needed a crucial conversion or reception, Cousins looked Crowder’s way.

He’s worthy of a pick-up this week, but I’m not sure if you can start him with confidence. Stash him and see if his role within the offense continues to grow.
