Famous Seattle bakery will bring Russian treats to 5 Oregon breweries

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A nationally famous, Seattle-based bakery is spreading its Eastern European treats throughout the U.S. with a pop-up tour that ends in Portland.

Piroshky Piroshky, which serves the Russian pastry of the same name, has been operating out of its flagship location in the Pike Place Market since 1992. The bakery has since expanded to five total locations, but people don’t need to travel to Seattle for a taste of the turnover sandwiches.

The bakery’s pop-up tour will allow customers in other cities to pre-order frozen pastries that will come with “detailed reheating instructions to ensure you have the best of our kitchen from your very own.”

The tour began in Oak Harbor, Wash., on March 2. After stopping at other cities including St. Louis, Chicago and Houston, the tour will close with an Oregon run.

Piroshky Piroshky will serve customers in Bend, Eugene, Corvallis, Salem and Portland from Monday, March 25 through Saturday, March 30.

The bakery asks interested customers to pre-order pastries on its website, with online orders closing two days before each pick-up event. Menu items include the best-selling beef and cheese piroshky, limited-edition cherry white chocolate piroshky and cheddar garlic rolls.

Portland’s pick-up event will be held at Great Notion Brewing in the Pearl District. Because of Piroshky Piroshky’s growing popularity, local customers are encouraged to place their orders before items sell out.

“Through the years, our bakery has received recognition far and wide, graced by the spotlight on Anthony Bourdain’s ‘No Reservations’ and the ‘Zimmern List’ on the Travel Channel,” Piroshky Piroshky spokesperson JD Toves said.

“By recognizing the immigrant journey embedded in our creations, Smithsonian Magazine honored us as one of ‘The 20 Most Iconic Food Destinations Across America.’ Each accolade is a testament to the flavors woven into our story’s fabric,” Toves added.
