Famous baseball team surprise patients at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — They came to put on a show! A well-known baseball team, the Savannah Bananas, took a trip to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Each player spent quality time with patients undergoing medical treatment.

“This is what we’re all about. The Savannah Bananas organization is fans first just giving back to the community and just uplifting everywhere we go,” Brandon Crosby, outfielder for the Savannah Bananas said.

The team is known for their famous choreographed dances and amusing personalities. Outfielder, Reese Alexiades, said if he can bring joy to a child’s day, he is all for it.

“You know, take their minds off whatever they’re going through and put a smile on their face, bring some joy, you know, dance a little bit, you know that’s what it’s about and you know, just uplift them any way we can,” Alexiades said.

Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital patient, Callen Fuller, was hit in the face with a baseball during a game. After his injury, Fuller had to have surgery traveling two hours from Lake Charles for treatment.

“They had to put like titanium plates in my eye and my nose,” Fuller said.

When Fuller came to Our Lady of the Lake, he didn’t expect his dream to come true when the Savannah Bananas and Party Animals came knocking on his room door.

“I love baseball. I love watching baseball and seeing them, like, do all their tricks on the field, which is pretty unique in how they play baseball,” Fuller said.

Fuller said one day he wants to be a part of the Savannah Bananas baseball team when he grows up. Fuller’s mom said he will make a full recovery and will be back on the field soon.

“Savannah Bananas are better,” Fuller said.
