Family wants answers after OKCPD release details in 14-year-old case

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma City Police Department released information about a 14-year-old case in an effort to find out what led to a metro woman’s death.

Teresa Thompson died on January 10, 2010, shortly after police picked her up along NW 9th and North Meridian. Officers were initially sent to the scene for a public drunkenness call.

“At the time our officers came in contact with her, she was highly intoxicated,” said MSgt. Jennifer Wardlow. “(She) was complaining of some injuries so our officers actually took her to an area hospital to be checked out.”

Police said after causing a commotion at the hospital, Thompson was wheeled out of the hospital in a wheelchair and placed in a police unit to be transferred to jail but she died on the way.

“The medical examiner actually learned that the injuries were possibly caused by a car wreck. One of her injuries was a shattered pelvis, again, from what they could see they believed that this lady was possibly hit by a vehicle,” said Wardlow.

Thompson’s three daughters still have more questions than answers as to what happened to their mother. They admit she had been struggling in the months before her death.

“She was dealing with mental health issues, which led to, you know, turning to alcoholism,” said Autrinique Sullivan, Thompson’s daughter. “It’s one thing to lose a parent, but it’s another to lose them violently and not know why.”

Her daughter, Michelle, recalled the last conversation she had with Thompson.

“She said, ‘I’m on my way home’,” said Michelle, “I stayed up as long as I could, but she never came home.”

Thompson’s three daughters said they weren’t given much information in the days and weeks after her death but were glad that police were raising awareness for the case, in hopes of finding out what happened that night.

“I’ve already made peace with maybe not ever knowing, but that’s not really peace if it’s possible to find out the truth,” said Sullivan.

Police ask if anyone can remember witnessing anything in the case the night of January 10, 2010 to call Crimestoppers at 405-235-7300.
