KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For one family, the shooting at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally has touched them in ways few of us can imagine.

Four of them were shot, including three minors and 43-year-old Lisa Lopez-Galvan, who died.

She was a mom, sister, wife and even a grandmother. Now her family is sharing her story, who she was and why she was the life of the party.

“She didn’t actually need a mic, but she loved the mic. She just wanted to have a good time. She wanted everybody to have a good time. That was who she was,” Lisa’s sister Carmen Lopez Murguia said.

It was a life that was quite frankly bigger than life. Her family said she was talented, joyful and never caught without a smile on her face.

“It’s the legacy she left in her short lifespan,” said Beto Lopez, Lisa’s brother. “And there are family members that remain here, and we will never let that memory go – and what we stood for.”

But it’s the moments that took her life that will leave a lasting impact on her family and a community forever.

Charges filed in shooting at Chiefs’ Super Bowl rally

“My husband called to say there’s been gunshots, and it was in a very frantic place. ‘Lisa – Lisa’s hurt. It’s not good,'” Carmen recalled.

“We did know that our sister was shot. We didn’t really didn’t know about the other family members, but we knew they were taken to the hospital,” Beto said.

That’s when the waiting game began.

Their phones didn’t have signal. They couldn’t get in a car and drive because traffic was gridlocked. So Beto started walking to the hospital just to find out what had happened to his family.

“It was a very uneasy feeling, and not knowing what the status of my sister was, was just a horrible thing to live through,” Beto said.

Lisa died at the age of 43. Her son Mark was also shot and has since been released from the hospital.

Chiefs, Mahomes donate to #KCStrong Fund after Super Bowl rally shooting

On Friday, her family released pictures of her two nieces, who were also shot, visiting with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes at the hospital on Thursday. One of the girls has been discharged; the other is still recovering.

They learned Friday of a $100,000 donation from popstar Taylor Swift and said they’re immensely grateful.

“Deeply touched and honored that someone so highly known across the world cared enough about our family. There are no words to express how touched we are,” Beto said.

Beto told FOX4 from everything he’s heard, Taylor Swift is a nice person who cares for others and loves music. So it’s an omen because if she would have known Lisa, they would have been friends.

And for now, this Kansas City-area family is holding onto each other and leaning on their faith as they navigate an unimaginable circumstance.
