Family remembers Orange Mound victim after shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Saturday marks three weeks since a shooting at a block party in Orange Mound Park left two people dead, and eight others injured.

Friday night, family came together for a candlelight vigil to remember one of the victims, 22-year-old Chalmar Fason.

Fason’s father, grandmother and loved ones came together to honor and remember him, as they try to make sense of this tragedy.

“He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. He just caught up,” said Fason’s father, Kunta Taylor.

Fason was one of two people who died in the April 20 shooting at Orange Mound Park that also left eight others injured.

Fuson’s grandmother, Charlene Taylor, remembers the moment she heard her grandson was dead.

“I said, ‘No it’s not true. It’s not true.’ They said, ‘Grandmama it’s true.’”

Family and friends set up a memorial for him and released balloons in honor of the man they said could make anyone smile.

Family members say the day the people who pulled the trigger are caught will be a great day. But in the meantime, they have to just take one day at a time.

Earlier this week, Police Chief C.J. Davis said arrests had been made after the shooting, but those people were not the alleged shooters.
