Family-owned Central American restaurant opens Midstate location

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) — A family-owned restaurant that offers Central American cuisines recently debuted in Lancaster; the same family also owns a second location in Guatemala.

It’s not uncommon for restaurant owners and small businesses to have multiple locations, but this Midstate family currently has a Central American-style restaurant in Guatemala and recently opened a second location right here in Lancaster County.

The new Nahual Maya Restaurant, located at 126 North Prince Street in Lancaster, is owned and operated by Cesar Flores and his wife Vielka. According to Vielka, she was originally from Panama and her husband was from Guatemala; the couple moved to the Lancaster area about 12 years ago.

Nahual Maya Restaurant in Lancaster is most known for offering a wide array of Central American cuisines; offering authentic entrees from regions across Panama, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

Vielka says that she and her husband’s extended family opened the first location of Nahual Maya Restaurant in Guatemala back in December of 2022.

This new Central American restaurant in Lancaster is capable of seating about 22 people at a time and it had its official grand opening back on Friday, February 23. Now that it’s opened, the new location’s hours of operation are:

  • Tuesdays – Saturdays // 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Sundays // 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“[Opening] feels great, everyone in the community has been so supportive,” Vielka said. “People kept saying that we needed something like this here in Lancaster, and that was our motivation to open!”
