Family of Man Found Biting Murder Victim’s Face Off Offer Condolences: ‘There Are No Words’

The family of a 19-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a married couple to death and attempted to bite a victim’s face off expressed their sympathies Monday to the families of the victims.

Austin Harrouff‘s family say that the Florida State University student “is not the person some are making him to be for their own purposes,” in a statement obtained by People. Wade and Mina Harrouff expressed their “deepest sympathy for the pain and suffering” caused by their son.

Authorities are still trying to determine what lead Harrouff to allegedly kill John Stevens III, 59, and Michelle Mishcon, 53, in a vicious attack last week. Toxicology tests to confirm if he was under the influence of the synthetic drug flakka are being conducted by the FBI, according to People, and the results could take weeks to come in.

Harrouff exhibited enormous strength when Martin County Sheriff’s deputies tried to subdue him last Monday. Police say he was attempting to bite Stevens’ face when they encountered him.

Harrouff will be charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, one count of burglary and one count of resisting arrest, according to PEOPLE, he will be served an arrest warrant once he is released from the hospital where he is recovering from injuries sustained during his arrest.

“There are no words we offer to give any real comfort for this tragic loss,” the Harrouff family continued in their statement.
