According to the Gun Barrel City Fire Department, a major crash occurred in the 1200 block of Harbor Point Road around 4 p.m. on Monday with a passenger vehicle collided with a flatbed trailer that was hauling heavy equipment. Officials said that two passengers were transferred to a local hospital from the vehicle.

The Gun Barrel City FD said that as a result of the crash, the family’s chihuahua, Pickles, escaped the vehicle and “was on the run.”

Officials said that a Henderson County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Mabank PD Animal Control Officer were able to “lure the dog back into the family vehicle” after an hour on the run. They said the vehicle was towed and Pickles was turned over to a family friend.

“I am very thankful for the efforts by the Deputy Sheriff and Animal Control Officer. Their persistence resulted in the successful rescue of the family pet,” Assistant Fire Chief Jason Raney said. “I also appreciate the patience from the motorists on Harbor Point Road while we tended to the accident victims and the dog running back and forth on the roadway.”
